Leyla S. Namazova-Baranova

Leyla S. Namazova-Baranova, head of the pediatric department in Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation (MoH RF), head of Research Institute of Pediatrics and Children’s Health in Petrovsky National Research Centre of Surgery, leading expert of preventive medicine in the MoH RF, chairman of NITAG RF, President of the Union of Pediatricians of Russia, past-president of the European Paediatric Association (EPA/UNEPSA), Member of the Bureau of the Executive Committee of the International Pediatric Association (IPA), Vice President of the Global Pediatric Pulmonology Alliance (GPPA).

Career:

1987 – graduated with honors from Second Moscow National Medical Institute named after N.I. Pirogov.

1987-1990 – pediatric resident in the Institute of Pediatrics of AMS USSR.

1990-1993 – pediatrician in allergy department in the Institute of Pediatrics of RAMS.

1993-2000 – senior fellow in allergy department in the Institute of Pediatrics of RAS (since 1998 – NCCH RAMS).

2000-2018 – head of day patient department of NCCH RAMS. 2003-2006 – chief physician of the diagnostic center of NCCH RAMS.

2006-2017 - head of the allergy and clinical immunology department, Pediatric Faculty, Moscow Medical Academy named after I.M. Sechenov (further - I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University (Sechenov University).

2006-2018 – deputy director for research - director of the Research institute of preventive pediatrics and rehabilitation of NCCH RAMS (further – Research Institute of Pediatrics NCCH RAMS).

2018  – director of the Institute of medical training in NCCH MoH RF.

2010 – till present – head of the pediatric department in Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University of the MoH RF. 2019 – 2022 – head of the Research Institute of Pediatrics and Child Health in Central Clinical Hospital of the Russian Academy of Sciences of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation.

2022-till present – head of Research Institute of Pediatrics and Children’s Health in Petrovsky National Research Centre of Surgery.

Basic scientific researches of L.S. Namazova-Baranova are devoted to topical problems of pediatric allergy and clinical immunology, vaccination, emergencies in pediatrics and public health, specific immunotherapy and rehabilitation. She is the leading researcher of cytokines and other mediators interactions in children with allergies and justifications of cytokine and anti-cytokine treatment implementation in pediatrics.

L.S. Namazova-Baranova is a leading organizer and developer of clinical guidelines, scientific-practical programs for pediatricians on asthma, allergic rhinitis, atopic dermatitis and other common and rare diseases in children. In 2012-2018 led on the Russian side several projects with WHO, including in 2012-2014 - The Russian Federation -WHO project «Improving the quality of medical care for children in primary care hospitals in Angola, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Ethiopia”, recognized as one of the most effective in the field of children's healthcare. Since 2015 head of the working group of ENIGMA-project (Enhancing Neuro Imaging Genetics Through Meta Analysis) in Russia.

New organizational, preventive, therapeutic and rehabilitation technologies were developed and implemented in pediatric allergology (urgent included) under her guidance. She has made the significant contribution in development and implementation of educational programs for parents and children.

L.S. Namazova-Baranova is the author of more than 1765 scientific papers (more than 220 in English or French), 37 monographs and 33 inventions.

Hirsch index in RSCI is 60, Hirsch index in Scopus 33, Hirsch index in Web of Science 33. She was the scientific adviser of 65 PhD students.

L.S. Namazova-Baranova is the chief editor of “Pediatric pharmacology” journal and the member of several editorial boards in Russian and foreign medical journals.

She has fluent English, French and German. She was elected as honorary professor in Foggia University (Italy), and as honorary member of the pediatric department of Royal College of Physicians of Ireland in 2019.  In 2021 he was awarded the title “Honorary Professor of the Volga Research Medical University”, in 2022 he was awarded the title “Honorary Professor of South Ural State Medical University”.
